Privacy Policy
- We only collect what you type into our form (to get the invite, send a guest story or request the EPK), plus basic technical details our web server records.
- We use it to send you the invite link or the EPK, consider your story for the show and, only if you tick the box, send occasional news.
- This site has no advertising, no tracking cookies and no analytics.
- We never sell or rent your information.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time: Connect@spreadmediastudios.com.
Who we are
This website, puffingonpuffingwith.com, is operated by Spread Media Studios and its production banner RWS Films ("we", "us"), based in Ontario, Canada. We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
What we collect
Information you give us
Our form has three options. Depending on which you choose, we ask for:
- Get the invite: your name and email address, so we can send you the invite-only link to the first episodes;
- Crew with a story: your name, email address, what you do on set, any credits you choose to list, and the story you'd tell;
- Press or industry: your name, email address, the type of organization you're with, your organization's name if you choose to give it, and whether you'll be at Banff World Media Festival 2027;
- in every case, confirmation that you're of legal age to use cannabis, and whether you'd like occasional news from us. The news box is unticked unless you tick it.
If you email us, we also receive whatever you include in that email.
Information collected automatically
When you submit the form we record the date and time, your IP address, your browser type and the page you came from. We keep these to prevent spam and abuse, and as a record of your request and any consent you gave. We also count how many times each emailed download link is used.
Like nearly every website, our hosting provider's servers keep standard access logs (IP address, pages requested, browser type, date and time) for security and troubleshooting.
Cookies and tracking
This site does not set cookies, does not use analytics or advertising tools, and does not load fonts, scripts or trackers from other companies. When you confirm your age, your browser remembers that answer until you close the tab (using the browser's session storage); it isn't sent to us. If that ever changes, we will update this policy first.
How we use it
- To send you the invite-only link to the first episodes, if you asked for it.
- To read your guest story and, if it's a fit, get in touch about appearing on the show.
- To email you a private link to the EPK, and to follow up on press, business or interview enquiries you've started.
- To send you occasional news about the show and our other productions, only if you ticked the news box. You can withdraw that consent at any time.
- To protect the site from spam, abuse and security threats.
- To meet our legal obligations, including keeping records of consent.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making, and we do not sell, rent or trade it.
Consent
By submitting the form you consent to us using your information for the option you chose: to send you the invite link, to consider your story, or to send you the EPK and respond to your request. Consent to receive news is separate and optional. You can withdraw it at any time by replying "unsubscribe" to any email from us, using an unsubscribe link where one is provided, or writing to Connect@spreadmediastudios.com. We will act on it within 10 business days.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers who help us run the site and our email, and only as far as they need it to do that work:
- Web hosting: our website and form records are hosted by our web hosting provider (currently HostGator).
- Email: our email services provider, which delivers and stores our email.
- Mailing list tools: if you opt in to news and we use a newsletter service, your name and email will be stored there.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our visitors or the public. If Spread Media Studios is involved in a merger, financing or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction under equivalent protections.
Storage outside Canada
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. While it is there, it may be accessible to courts, law enforcement and national security authorities under the laws of that country. We choose providers that protect information to a standard comparable to Canadian law.
How long we keep it
- EPK download links stop working after 14 days, and the stored link record is deleted shortly after.
- Invite-list sign-ups are kept until the show launches publicly and for 12 months after, unless you opted in to news.
- Guest stories and EPK requests are kept for up to 24 months, then deleted, unless you've opted in to news or we're in ongoing contact with you.
- If you opted in to news, we keep your details until you unsubscribe, plus a record of your consent and withdrawal for as long as the law requires.
- Server logs are kept by our host for a limited period under its own retention schedule.
How we protect it
The site runs over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Form records and the EPK file are stored in a folder that can't be reached from the web, and download links are long, random and time-limited. Only people at Spread Media Studios who need the information can see it. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps for the sensitivity of the information involved.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and how we've used it;
- correct anything that's inaccurate or incomplete;
- delete your information, where we don't need to keep it for legal reasons; and
- stop sending you news.
Email Connect@spreadmediastudios.com with "Privacy" in the subject line. We may ask you to confirm your identity, and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Young people
This site is about cannabis and is only for adults of legal age to use it where they live. It isn't directed at young people, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under the legal age. If you believe someone under age has sent us their information, please contact us and we'll delete it.
Links to other sites
Our site and EPK may link to other websites, including our other productions' sites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and this policy doesn't cover them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our site or the law changes. We'll post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change significantly affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll ask for your consent where the law requires it.
